Dr. Ally Quintos

Dr. Kelly Perona

Dr. Ally Quintos
Dr. Ally is one of those rare extraverted Seattleites. She loves to help others move better and feel better while holding a compassionate, motivating space. As with other providers at Flourish, Dr. Ally believes that any progress in health, no matter how small, is a step forward and should be celebrated. Some days that will be earning a PR at the gym. Other days that will be simply showing up for your appointment. Your best will change from day to day, and it is enough.
Dr. Ally uses chiropractic adjusting, muscle scraping (gua sha), pin and stretch, and therapeutic exercises, while also addressing behavioral modifications, nutrition, and lifestyle factors all for optimal wellness. She is primarily a diversified manual adjuster, and also implements Thompson Drops and instrument-assisted adjustments. Some of her patients prefer instrument-only and that is welcomed by her.
She takes a movement and biomechanics based approach to chiropractic to promote function and wellbeing. As an avid runner, Dr. Ally loves helping people with hip, knee and shoulder injuries. She is amazed at how many people who hike or run have neck and shoulders tension! Aside from sports injuries or helping people continue doing what they love, she also has experience in pediatrics and prenatal, and really enjoys working with children, from 1 month to 17 years old. She loves supporting those who are expecting throughout their pregnancy, whether it be back pain, hip pain or overall wellness.
Dr. Ally returned to Seattle in 2020 to practice and joined Flourish in 2022. When Dr. Ally is outside of the office, she enjoys running, spending time with her family, and playing with her pup, Franklin.

Dr. Kelly Perona
Dr. Kelly focuses on intentional healing and pain relief using hot stones, adjustments, focused massage, and stretches to encourage movement in the body, as well as preventive/self-care, posture and general wellbeing.
She is Webster-certified and has studied in the most painless, effective treatment methods available which involve traditional hands-on adjustments or instrument.
From Dr. Kelly: I love connecting with people and holding a supportive space for their needs. I started school to become a dentist with the intent to have a career in helping people. Three years into my schooling, I changed my profession to chiropractic after a car accident so I could focus on treating muscle and joint problems naturally. I love witnessing the exponential improvement chiropractic and massage can bring to whiplash or strains from MVAs, bike accidents, or other collisions. And doing so in a compassionate, validating space.
I have helped musicians, people who bind or brave MTF or FTM surgeries, runners, yoga enthusiasts, people in the restaurant industry, hairstylists, and those with the ever-elusive desk jobs. My mission is to help people live life to their fullest potential. Sometimes that is being able to work throughout the day without pain. Sometimes that is getting out of bed and brushing your teeth. There is no judgement and I am humbled and appreciative to have someone trust me to help them in their goals.
I am familiar with a large variety of body movements and mechanics and have plenty of experience with my own injuries. I also understand that healing from an injury can be difficult because you don’t want to take time off from activity. I don’t want people to settle for merely being out of pain for typical daily activities. Healing properly, to me, means being able to get back into your personal level of activity without discomfort. I’d love to help.

Understanding Herniated Discs
YoYour spinal column consists of many parts, and one of those parts is your discs. Between each vertebra is a spongy, jelly-filled disc that acts as a shock absorber for your spine, helping you twist, bend, and lift.
Each disc has two parts, the annulus and the nucleus. The annulus is the tough outer part, and the nucleus is the softer inside. When the annulus tears, the nucleus can leak or bulge out, sometimes called a disc protrusion. The disc protrusion presses against the nerves in your spine and causes various levels of discomfort and pain.
The medical term for this is “herniated disc,” but the condition goes by several names:
- Slipped disc
- Bulging disc
- Disc protrusion
- Disc prolapse
- Ruptured disc
What Are the Symptoms of a Herniated Disc?
Some people feel intense or chronic pain and discomfort, while others may only feel minor pain. And plenty of people experience no symptoms for a long time and never realize they have a herniated or slipped disc.
Even if you’re not experiencing constant pain or discomfort, common herniated disc symptoms include:
- Muscle weakness, which may make it difficult to stand, walk, or sit
- Pain that’s sharp, shooting, or stabbing, or gets worse when you twist, bend, or lift
- Numbness or tingling in your arms or legs
Your symptoms and pain levels vary based on which spinal disc or discs are affected. You’re most likely to herniate a disc in your lower back and feel pain there, but you may also feel pain in your arms, wrists, and legs, or even experience headaches instead of back pain. This is known as referred pain and can be a confusing symptom you don’t associate with a herniated disc.
Some people herniate a disc in their neck and feel pain in the neck, shoulders, and sometimes upper back.

What Causes Herniated Discs?
Herniated discs have two main causes.
The first cause of a disc protrusion is an injury, such as a car accident. The sudden force of an accident puts pressure on your spine and soft tissues, forcing the disc out of place. However, not using proper lifting techniques can also injure your spine. For example, twisting too much while lifting a heavy package can cause a herniated disc.
The other major cause of herniated discs is age. The longer you live, the more gravity pulls down on your spine, causing your discs to compress and press on your nerves.
Benefits of Chiropractic Adjustment for Herniated Discs
While chiropractic care and spinal adjustments aren’t a cure, they can effectively treat herniated disc symptoms and relieve pressure on your spinal nerves. Some of the benefits of chiropractic care include:
- Drug-free pain relief. Herniated disc pain can range from mildly annoying to severe. However, chiropractic spinal manipulation is a drug-free treatment that can provide significant pain relief.
- Noninvasive. Spinal adjustments are a noninvasive intervention for a herniated disc. While surgical intervention may be necessary for serious cases, chiropractic care can relieve pain, allowing you to avoid surgery.
- Improved mobility. Herniated disc pain can make it hard to move. The pain reduction chiropractic care provides can restore pain-free movement.
- Prevent future problems. Back pain that comes and goes could be a symptom of a herniated disc. Even if it’s not interfering with your life right now, getting chiropractic treatment today can prevent future injuries.

Therapeutic Exercises: Provide targeted exercises to strengthen back and abdominal muscles, enhance flexibility, and reduce pain in your back and legs.
Lifestyle Advice: Offer guidance on posture, ergonomics, and other lifestyle factors to support your recovery and prevent your herniated disc from causing more pain.

Complementary Therapies
In addition to chiropractic adjustments to treat herniated discs, Flourish Chiropractic Spa offers complementary therapies to enhance your overall wellness:
- Massage therapy. Regular massages can improve blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and help your body heal.
- Medical massage therapy. Medical massages include all the benefits of a regular massage while targeting your specific medical needs.
- Pregnancy massage. Pregnancy is unlikely to cause a herniated disc. But if you already have one, the changes your body undergoes during a pregnancy can exacerbate symptoms, and a pregnancy massage can alleviate your pain.

FAQs – Seattle Herniated Discs Chiropractic Care
Can a cough or sneeze cause a herniated disc?
Technically, no. A cough or sneeze isn’t enough force to cause a herniated disc. However, a strong enough cough or sneeze can exacerbate an already slipped disc. So, if you feel pain after coughing or sneezing, what you’re feeling is the disc pressing on the nerve.
Can chiropractic fix a herniated disc?
Chiropractic won’t fix a herniated disc, but it can ease your pain and discomfort, which will help you feel better.
Will my insurance cover chiropractic for my herniated disc?
We’re in-network with many major insurance plans, but coverage varies by provider and plan. It’s best to check with your insurance company to understand what your policy includes. Read more about insurance in our FAQs.
How do I know if it’s back pain or a herniated disc?
Back pain — especially lower back pain — can be a symptom of a herniated disc! It’s best to consult your physician to see if your pain is a pulled muscle or something else.
